Religious people are delusional...
…and my brand of delulu is Christianity.
I remember trying to get to the park after leaving the venue of my friend’s wedding in a different state. I was almost late and really needed a ride. Then a raggedy-looking man came my way and asked me “I na’aga?”, meaning “Are you going?”.
I obviously had no option, so I hopped on. In normal driver style, he started talking, but what he said was what made me ponder today’s subject matter. He told me how I was an answered prayer for him and how he had not eaten since the previous day. He then went on to tell me about how life was hard but that he was thankful for how good God was and how he believed that his life would eventually get better; if not on earth, then in heaven.
I was both sad and in awe.
If I was not christian, I would have said that he was self decieving and refusing to deal with his problems but I knew with everything in me that the guy believed everything he was saying.
I have heard many people call the act of having faith in God, religious psychosis. The first time I heard it, I was pissed, but right now, though I don’t agree, I fully understand their sentiment. There is a way a person would believe that their God is good even in the midst of chaos and what not that would convince you that they are crazy.
Take religious people in warring nations as an example; still believing that this your good God is still good despite him not “saving” you screams delusion in leaps and bounds.
But this is the beauty of faith, more than in things, faith looks beyond now. In fact, it helps us glide through hard times, knowing that the promise is that we are at best pilgrims on earth and while we ought to take care of the earth and enjoy it as much as we can, the real deal is after here.
That’s why as delusional as it looks, faith is a very sensible concept.
If you believe in God, know that I’m rooting for you. Don’t ever give up on your faith
